Between Austin and San Antonio, Texas, just South of Buda, sits Kyle, a lazy little town just off of IH35. You can find the downtown area via the local water tower, which hovers boldly over the tops of the trees!
The Texas Pie Company sits just one block west of the freeway, very easy to find. The shop is bright and colorful with large lettering on the roof and a HUGE piece of fruit pie advertising its famous pies. It is evident from the front door that this place has personality!
This is not your ordinary restaurant, but a unique place to visit. This restaurant serves lunch all day. It began as a bakery in l986, using grandmas family recipes. The setting is simple, but the food is great!

We met some old friends from San Antonio for lunch. They were visiting Cabbella's in Buda and The Texas Pie Co. was conveniently located between Austin and San Antonio. As we entered the shop, my first impression was that The Texas Pie Co. is a unique place. The smells from the bakery assaulted our senses and we were immediately hungry. The pie case looked extremely inviting. Cupcakes, lemon bars and other fun desserts sat under the counter, ready to be chosen for a meal.
Good Eating

The menus were on small pieces of paper stacked on the counter. They offered quiche, various sandwiches, and a selection of beverages. We all chose a box lunch with a sandwich, chips, and a brownie or cookie. The four of us found a seat at a table in a corner and our food was delivered in five minutes.
The ladies ordered a tuna sandwich. It was my first time to request jalapenos and onions on a sandwich. I enjoyed every mouthful. Thank goodness that the jalapenos weren't hot. The guys ordered egg salad and turkey with cheese. The breads were homemade and exremely fresh. Of course, the brownies hit the chocolate spot.
The Atmosphere

The store dining area is not very large with a dozen or so tables for customers. The window ledges are decorated with cheerful plants and various knick-knacks. The walls were covered with plates and local pictures providing plenty to look at!
Be sure to visit the restroom at the back of the store. One restroom serves all. You will pass the kitchen filled with fragrant pie smells. A bathroom shelf in one corner is filled with little cartoon knick-knacks and statues. During my visit, I noticed that the bricks in the wall were cracked. Right behind the bathroom door is a rather large opening in the wall where the settling has been extensive and a brick is missing. If you look carefully, you will see a hand coming through the hole in the wall, as if to grab you while you sit captive. Very interesting.

Recommendation
I highly recommend this establishment as a fun place to visit. My husband returned home with a small strawberry rhubarb pie. Not only do they sell the full pies, but they carry an assortment of small pies for the taster.
We will visit again soon. See you there and would you save me a piece of pie?
