This may not be an authentic Hungarian dish, but it is a family recipe that I grew up on. With four brothers, dinner had to be filling AND appealing. Follow these directions and your family can enjoy this quick and easy recipe for supper.
Gather one medium onion, two stalks of celery and one half of a green pepper to begin the process. Chop them all into small pieces and place in your favorite large cooking pan. Spray with Pam or some other oil before beginning. Add your chopped vegetables to the pan and simmer until soft. Add two pounds of lean ground beef. As the meat simmers, add a teaspoon of Worchestire sauce to the meat. Simmer until the meat is thoroughly cooked.
Meanwhile, boil a large package of your favorite macaroni or noodles. As the water begins to boil, add the noodles or macaroni and cook per the instructions.
Putting It All Together
After the beef has browned, mix the vegetables and beef together well. Add two cans of kidney beans to the pan, including the juice. Do not drain them. Throw in a large can of Tomato Soup. Mix in a package of your favorite brown gravy mix. Stir well. Add the cooked noodles or macaroni after draining. For the final ingredient, add one fourth cup of chili powder. Mix the chili powder into the casserole. If you like it spicy, add more chili powder according to your taste. Cover your dish with a lid and simmer until heated thoroughly.
Serve with a salad and you have dinner for a family. This casserole will also travel well to potluck dinners and Holiday events. Watch the smiles as the casserole disappears.
