Am I the only one who has struggled with proper folding of a fitted bed sheet? I have limited linen storage space and folding it to fit my storage space is essential. In addition, I don't like messy linen shelves. We have a king size bed and the fitted sheets are large, however any size fitted sheet can be folded according to these directions!
To begin, lay the sheet lengthwise on a bed or couch, folding it in half. Tuck the rounded corners together and fold them over to form a straight edge. Folding the fitted material over will allow you to have square corners to work with. Smooth them out and make them uniform. Doing so will make your folding easy and quick.
Beginning Your Fold

Take the end of the sheet, keeping your fold-over in place, and fold in half. The outside rim will look square and neat because the gathered material and elastic is folded under.
Next, lift the bottom half of your sheet and fold in half again. Now your sheet is smaller and more manageable, ready to add the finishing touches.
FOLDING FOR THE LINEN CLOSET

The bed sheet is now easy to manage because the odd gathered edges are tucked away in your folds. Take the remaining sheet and fold it in thirds. This gives you a neat manageable and easily stored sheet. If you are using a knit sheet or a sheet that is still pliable at this stage, fold in half one more time to make your sheet the same size as your top sheet. My sheet is crisp and won't fold again.
I stack my folded bottom sheet, add my top sheet and top it with pillow cases for easy storage. All folds face the same way for that professional and tidy look. If you store your sheets lengthwise on the shelf, place the folds toward you to add uniformity to your shelf. By stacking your sheets in this manner, you won't mind showing off your closet to visitors. With this storage method, it is easy to pull sheets to remake a bed. Congratulations on your accomplishment and enjoy your neatly folded sheets.

Why am I writing a blog on folding towels? Years ago, when my children were small and I worked full time, I had a wonderful housekeeper who taught me a few things about towels. She saw my disorganized closet...

Thanks! I always have a fit folding fitted sheets.
Thanks for the instructions. I usually just stuff mine in the drawer because I gave up on folding them!
Thanks for the instructions as these sheet typically drive me nuts.
I never knew how to do it. I just rolled it up in a bundle. Thanks for a great hub.
Your story got me thinking about the maids that worked cleaning rooms at a major casino in Nevada. There were two maids working each floor of the hotel casino. A supervisor was constantly overlooking their work. To clean an entire room, they were given eight minutes. That was to do everything from changing the sheets on the beds to vacumning the room, cleaning the bathroom and on and on.
If the maids did not meet the 8 minute time requirement they got a pink slip. Three pink slips and they were out of a job.
This is great. You know know how many times I have fought with folding a fitted sheet. Most of the time I just ball it up and stick it out of sight. When it's time to put it on the bed I run it through the touch up cycle on the dryer to take some of the wrinkles out. A truly great hub.
Secretly...I have totally given up on doing this. I either put it back in a drawer where it won't be seen until needed (not exposed in a closet) or I immediately put it back on the bed and avoid folding.
I've followed directions and about 30 years ago it worked a couple times. According to your hub I can try again...and be successful. I may take out a sheet hidden in a drawer and practice. Whew!
Great and necessary hub. Rate up.
Great hub! Hopefully my linen closet will look better now!
I am 60 years old, and I have NEVER been able to get a fitted sheet looking that good! Thanks for the hub!
Thanks for the info. Normally I just mush them into a ball out of frustration!
