Christmas Lights in Cedar Park, Texas

Even with this slow economy, there are lots of outdoor Christmas decorations to enjoy! Just a few years ago, a few Christmas lights on a tree, on the house or around the shrubbery were the norm, but today many of our Christmas decorations are over the top. Some yards are so full of Christmas blowups and yard decorations that there is no room to add even one more item.

While growing up, our family had a neighbor who decorated his large front yard at Christmas with all types of moving Christmas figures and games in addition to lots and lots of lights. The traffic in front of our house was horrible. We couldn't get out of our driveway at night. He was the only one in town with such creativity. Today he would fit right in with the other elaborate home decorators!

Turn your radio to 95.9 and listen to the beautiful instrumental Christmas music while you watch the synchronized lights on the trees and over the driveway arch light up and change colors. On Sharon Drive in Cedar Park you can find a unique display of lights that will make you smile. This resident must be an engineer with his sophisticated light system which is probably run on his computer.

Santa sits in a chair in front of the garage and waves as cars sit in darkness watching the light show around him. A large arch over the driveway lights up brightly in beat to the music. The many trees are beautifully wrapped with lights and timed with instrumental sounds reflect an entire orchestra. You will love it. Stop by and leave a donation of canned goods if you like.

Cedar Park definitely knows how to decorate. The ultimate Christmas decorations can be found on Chinati Court just off of Sun Chase. This group of homes has banded together to tell the story of Santa Claus. Start on the South East corner and walk the circle to enjoy the presentation to its fullest. Your children and grandchildren must see this display of lights.

Canned goods can be donated in the center of the court. Santa Claus was scheduled to make an appearance at this very site.

My family members took the walk on a cold evening and then went for hot chocolate on the way home! It put us in the Christmas spirit!

For many years, Christmas lights, wreaths and bows and nativity scenes were used for decorating. Today we find cartoon characters, colorful Santas, various inflatable figures, and moving toys along with the traditional nativity scene. The lights have changed from the basic rainbow colors to luminous purples,blues and greens that are so bright in the darkness of night that they make you squint. It is not unusual to see Snoopy in a plane with spinning rotors next to a nativity scene or Santa's sled. I saw a flying pink pig over a doorway at one house. The yard was beautifully decorated with a pig notoriously placed in the entrance.

Christmas decorations have evolved into entertainment centers. I am not sure where we go from here. How do we improve on the colors, the technology, or the quantity? Time will tell, I am sure!
